LASIK Enhancement
While LASIK patients enjoy a high success rate, not every procedure provides the desired level of correction and some patients require an enhancement surgery to achieve optimal results.
Before considering LASIK enhancement, you should make sure you allow the recommended amount of healing time and follow your recovery guidelines after your initial LASIK procedure. An examination with an experienced Kansas City ophthalmologist or optometrist at Silverstein Eye Centers will determine if LASIK enhancement will treat any underlying issues not corrected with your first LASIK procedure.
The need for LASIK enhancement can be caused by a number of factors, most commonly vision overcorrection or undercorrection. Overcorrection and undercorrection are generally the result of differences in the way your eyes heal following surgery.
Patients who are farsighted or have higher corrective lens prescriptions prior to LASIK experience a slightly higher rate of need for enhancement. It’s important to note that LASIK enhancement is intended to correct, not perfect, vision after the initial LASIK procedure.
A LASIK enhancement procedure is similar to LASIK surgery, but utilizes a specialized tool to relift the flap created on the surface of your eye during your initial surgery to access your cornea.
