• WHAT CAUSES NEARSIGHTEDNESS?

Myopia is the medical term for difficulty seeing faraway objects. If you find that nearsighted vision is making everyday activities challenging, Silverstein Eye Centers in Kansas City, Missouri, can help you find the best treatment to improve your vision.

Nearsightedness is the result of a refractive error in the lens of the eye. If the lens of your eye is flawed, light isn’t focused properly as it enters the interior of your eyeball and moves toward the brain through the optic nerve. The brain will convert the unfocused light from the eye into a faulty image, making objects at a distance appear blurry.

In addition to this blurry vision, typical symptoms of nearsightedness include:

    • Squinting
    • Eyestrain
    • Headaches

Your eye doctor can diagnose nearsightedness with a simple eye exam. He/she might also try to determine the severity of the myopia by asking how your vision affects your ability to engage in activities like:

    • Driving
    • Outdoor activities
    • Viewing objects like a TV, blackboard, stage or screen in a theater or other common items at a distance

If you’re nearsighted and would like to learn about treatment options, please contact Silverstein Eye Centers today to schedule a consultation. We are proud to serve patients in Kansas City with two locations.
