WHAT IS PRESBYOPIA?

Presbyopia is when your vision changes as a natural part of the aging process. Your eye loses its ability to focus on objects at different distances (known as accommodation), and you begin having trouble seen objects up close.

WHEN WILL I DEVELOP PRESBYOPIA?

Presbyopia normally begins to appear when you are in your 40s or 50s. The exact age depends on your genetics, lifestyle, and diet.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF PRESBYOPIA?

You will lose your ability to focus on objects up close. Most people notice presbyopia when they start holding books or newspapers at arms’ length to read them.

WHAT TREATMENTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PRESBYOPIA?

In the past, people just relied on bifocals when they began to experience the symptoms of presbyopia. There are many presbyopia treatments available today. We offer monovision and clear lens extraction to treat presbyopia.

WHAT IS MONOVISION?

In monovision, your eyes are altered surgically so one is focused for objects at a short distance and the other is focused for objects at a distance. Monovision can be performed using LASIK, PRK, or adding a supplementary lens (Visian ICL).

WHAT IS CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE (CLE)?

In clear lens exchange, your eye’s natural lens, which is normally responsible for accommodation, is removed and replaced with an advanced lens implant that allows you to look at objects at different distances. One advantage of CLE is that replacing the natural lens now means you will not have to have cataract surgery later.

WHAT LENS OPTIONS DO YOU OFFER FOR CLE?

We offer several advanced lens options:

During your consultation, we can discuss the differences between these options and help you decide which one is right for you. If you have additional questions, please contact Silverstein Eye Centers today for an appointment.
