Meet Our Eye Doctors
The doctors at Silverstein Eye Centers have performed thousands of surgical procedures. Many families have trusted the professionals at Silverstein Eye Centers to improve their vision with LASIK/PRK laser vision correction, cataract premium lens implant surgery, glaucoma management and surgery, and general ophthalmology.
Steven M. Silverstein MD, FACS
After completing his internship in internal medicine, Dr. Steven M. Silverstein received his training in ophthalmology at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Silverstein then completed his subspecialty fellowship in corneal transplantation and external diseases at the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, where he also served as clinical professor.
A board-certified ophthalmologist and fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Silverstein is active in a number of professional medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Midwest Cornea Society, the Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, the Missouri Medical Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Silverstein is a leader in medical research and innovative technology. He has published in major medical journals, and lectures extensively around the world.

Lynn M Gaston, OD
Dr. Gaston graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in 1996 from University of Nebraska Omaha; and both her Bachelor of Visual Science in 1998 and her doctorate in 2000, from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois. She practiced in Chicago for a few years and has now been practicing in Clay and Buchanan Counties in Missouri for nearly 20 years. Dr. Gaston is experienced in a variety of practice modalities, with extensive experience with primary care optometry and contact lenses, treating patients of all ages.
When in the 6th grade, an eye injury had her hospitalized for 5 days as they tried to save her left eye. She knew she wanted to be a doctor, but this event solidified her drive to be an Optometrist, saving peoples’ eyesight, just as hers was all those years ago.
As a Northland resident for the past 19 years, her interests and hobbies include cheering for all the KC sports teams; Royals, Chiefs, KC Current and Sporting KC, patio gardening, reading a good book, and trying her hand at crafting.
She loves spending time with her son Drew, visiting extended family as much possible, and enjoying her “dorky” (dachshund/yorkie) dog, Cocoa.

Amber B. Troyer, OD
Dr. Troyer received her doctorate in optometry from Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, Indiana and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She has been practicing in Eastern Jackson County for over 20 years and has experience in a variety of practice modalities, with extensive experience with contact lenses. Dr. Troyer provides eye care for children through adults.
In her free time, she enjoys watching her teenage sons’ sports activities, tending to the yard, flower beds as well as vegetable gardening.
Dr. Troyer’s friendly chairside manner has allowed her to build lasting patient-doctor relationships, and she is committed to providing exceptional eye care to the families of Odessa and surrounding communities.

Nancy J. Fry, OD – Retired
Dr Fry has been practicing optometry in the area for 39 years. Her practice has been in Odessa, Mo since 1981. She also practiced in Blue Springs, Mo from 1986-2003.
She graduated from Southwest Mo State University (now MSU) in Springfield with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. From there she went on to graduate from Southern California College of Optometry for her Doctor of Optometry degree. She has been a member of the American Optometric Society for over 40 years, and has worked closely with the Lions Club during her career.
Dr Fry has been referring patients to Dr Silverstein for over 26 years. Together, they have provided exceptional eye care to families of Odessa.
