As long as you are in strong health and don’t have any other major eye conditions, recovering from cataract surgery should be a short and relatively uneventful process. Immediately after your procedure, you will need to rest until the sedation/anesthesia wears off – which usually takes around 30 minutes to an hour. A friend or family member should drive you home after your surgery. We will provide you with a pair of sunglasses to wear on the way home for protection against light sensitivity, and a protective eye shield to wear at night or during naps for the next several days.
Your vision may not be perfect at first. It takes time for your eyes and brain to adapt to the new lens implant. During this adjustment period, some people report seeing distortions or wavy vision. This should last only briefly. Some amount of redness in your eyes is also normal. This, too, will dissipate over the next few days.
Every patient heals differently. You may have clear vision just a few hours after cataract surgery, while another patient may need a week or two before they start seeing the sharpest possible images.
