    There may be no permanent cure for the age-related vision loss known as presbyopia, but there are surgical treatment options available that can extend the time during which you may not need corrective eyewear.

    The surgical options available for treating presbyopia include:

    • LASIK surgery to provide monovision
    • Conductive keratoplasty (CK) to reshape the curve of the cornea
    • Clear lens exchange (CLE) to replace the eye’s natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens

    LASIK surgery is one of the most common methods for treating presbyopia. LASIK is used to create monovision, in which your dominant eye is focused for distance vision and your nondominant eye is focused for near vision.

    With CK, radio waves are used to reshape the cornea and adjust the focusing power of your eye. The radio waves are applied around the edge of your cornea via a small probe.

    CLE uses an artificial lens known as an intraocular lens to replace your eye’s natural lens. CLE is more frequently used in cataracts treatment, but the ability to provide clear distant, intermediate and near vision has proven effective for those suffering from the early effects of presbyopia as well.
