Wavefront is used to measure how light travels through your eyes and produce a digital, 3-D map of your eye. This map highlights areas of distortion—or aberrations—in your eye.
Wavefront is effective in detecting high-order vision aberrations, which can create problems such as:
- Decreased contrast
- Double vision
- Glare
- Halos
- Reduced night vision
- Shadows
When compared against the way light travels through an eye with optimal vision, the image created with the use of wavefront allows a LASIK surgeon to program and guide the laser to address the specific aberrations in your eyes.
Although custom LASIK allows increased precision and individualized care, not everyone is a candidate for LASIK surgery. In addition, even some LASIK candidates will be effectively served by traditional LASIK; patients who are farsighted or have astigmatism may benefit slightly more from custom LASIK.
An examination with a Kansas City ophthalmologist at Silverstein Eye Centers will determine if LASIK is right for you, and, if so, which type of LASIK procedure is best suited for your needs.
