    Have you scheduled an appointment for lens implant surgery, and are wondering about the steps that need to be followed to prepare for surgery? Your eye surgeon will give you detailed information about the things you should do before and after surgery, and it is important that you follow these instructions with exactness.

    Here are a few tips that should be followed before you have your surgery:

    PLAN FOR THE PROPER AMOUNT OF RECOVERY TIME

    The recovery period after lens implant surgery is fairly minimal compared to other types of surgery, but you will need more time to ensure that your eyes can recover properly. Most people will need to take one or two days off work and rest for a while before returning to their normal work schedule.

    FIND SOMEONE TO DRIVE YOU TO THE APPOINTMENT

    You won’t be able to drive yourself home after surgery is complete, so it is best to find a family member or friend who can drive you to your appointment and wait while you have surgery. Additionally, this person can help you fill any prescriptions needed after surgery, and stay with you at home in case you need help with anything. You will need to have someone drive you to the follow-up appointment the day after the surgery as well, so plan accordingly.

    CLOTHING AND HYGIENE

    Make sure you wear comfortable clothing when you have lens implant eye surgery. It’s best to choose loose-fitting clothing and stay away from clothing that is too restricting. Don’t wear jewelry or other accessories that might get in the way during the surgery. On the day of surgery, be sure to shower, wash your face, and wash your hair. Don’t wear beauty products, cosmetics, or makeup to your appointment.

    FOOD AND DRINK

    Your doctor will talk with you about the types of foods and drinks you can have before surgery. Often, it is advised that you have a light breakfast before going to the surgical clinic, although other recommendations might be made depending on your individual situation. Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours before having surgery.

    TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT MEDICATIONS

    If you are taking any over-the-counter or prescription medications, you need to talk with your eye surgeon about these medications. The doctor might recommend that you avoid taking specific medications before surgery. After lens implant surgery is complete, follow instructions for any prescription medications that your doctor prescribes.
