• CATARACT SURGERY: EXPECTATIONS

Cataract surgery is a safe, efficient and effective solution for improving vision and reducing your future dependence on glasses when cataracts cause vision loss.

During your personal consultation, your Kansas City eye doctor at Silverstein Eye Centers will help you determine if cataract surgery is right for you. We will also discuss the details of the procedure with you thoroughly and review your lens implant options.

Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure that includes the use of a mild sedative and local anesthesia. After your Kansas City eye doctor dilates your affected pupil, an incision will be made along the edge of the cornea; through this opening, your eye doctor will remove the clouded lens of your eye. The back portion of the lens will be left in place and an intraocular lens (IOL) will be implanted into the capsular bag that previously held the cataract-affected lens.

After cataract surgery, you may experience some minor, temporary discomfort and blurry vision. Within a few days, you will begin to notice significant improvement in vision; full visual recovery is progressive generally takes up to two months.

To help your eyes maintain moisture, reduce inflammation and prevent infection, your eye doctor will prescribe eye drops. We will review your recovery guidelines with you in-depth prior to your cataract surgery.
