• WHAT WILL THE LASIK RECOVERY PROCESS BE?

Recovery from LASIK is incredibly fast. Immediately after the procedure, you may experience blurry or hazy vision. In several hours, you will begin to notice improvement. Most patients are able to see clearly and return to work within 24 to 48 hours.

You will need to wear an eye shield for the first one to two days and take all medications prescribed by ophthalmologist Dr. Steven Silverstein until you have finished them. Medications may include antibiotics, moisturizing eye drops and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Depending on the type of vision disorder you are having corrected, your vision will take several months to fully stabilize. During this time you may need to wear a modified prescription while performing tasks such as reading.

You can help reduce your risk of complications and accelerate your recovery time by following Dr. Silverstein’s postoperative care instructions. These will include:

  • Wear sunglasses when you are outside during the daytime.
  • Avoid direct water spray in the eyes for the first week – take baths instead of showers for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption for 48 hours.
  • Do not rub your eyes for the first few weeks.
  • Avoid smoke, dust, and other pollutants during your recovery period.
  • By taking these precautions, you are more likely to experience a successful and comfortable LASIK recovery.
